Team Red Bull Record Fastest Ever Pit Stop

Team Red Bull claimed the fastest ever time recorded for a pit stop; in just 1.9 seconds on Mark Webber’s car at the 2013 U.s Grand Prix in Austin Texas. Red bull checked the data on Webber’s car and it recorded that during his pit stop the car had only been stationary for just 1.923 seconds!

F1 teams need to consistently improve their team pit stops times, good races are not down to the success of the driver alone. Formula 1 is a team sport and a good pit stop is vital for team success. In a matter of seconds the pit team change the tyres, replace damaged parts and adjust front wings! The teams must have the pit stop down to a fine art and their amazing organisation makes it look easy. Its vital for grand prix packages that during the pit stop each mechanic is in the correct position at the tight time.

The lolly pop men guide the driver into the pits, the car stops and must be in a precise position for everything to go like clock work for a good pit stop. It takes 3 mechanics on each wheel to change the tyre: one for removing and refitting the wheel nuts with a pressure air gun, one who lifts of the old tyre off and out of the way and finally one who lifts and sets the new new tyre in position.

The pit crew have a huge responsibility to ensure the pit stop goes smoothly, ultimately if a bit stop went wrong the time difference could mean that driver could lose his position in the race. There is nothing quite like the excitement of F1 and thats why grand prix packages are so popular!
